We first got word of the Samsung SGH-i780 when the company showed off the handset at GITEX in Dubai. The model shown was outfitted with a European transceiver and hopes for a U.S. release were dim.
But in early 2009, an SGH-i780 variant was available by AT&T Mobility, the Samsung SGH-i907 Epix. The Epix is a touchscreen Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Smartphone with UMTS/HSDPA 3G Mobile Broadband, aGPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. One feature of particular interest is its optical mouse, a touch-sensitive area in the center of its navigation pad, which is now found on many smartphone devices across multiple mobile platforms and manufacturers.
The Epix was aimed at business users, but also has a multimedia side. It can store up to 32GB of audio and video files by way of its microSDHC flash memory card slot and has support for stereo Bluetooth audio.
