Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes) Pocket PC Phone Information Center
Cingular 8525 PPC Phone (open)
Like the 8125 before it, the Cingular 8525 was designed and built by HTC. Known in other parts of the world as the HTC Hermes, the Cingular 8525 built on the strengths of the 8125 while correcting some weaknesses.
Perhaps the most notable update to the Cingular 8525 is its support for UMTS and HSDPA data networks; it was the first handheld in the United States with that capability. The clock speed of the Samsung SC32442processor is also double that of the 8125, which makes the handset quite a bit speedier. The onboard digital camera has been upgraded to 2MP and a new scroll wheel has been added to the left side of the unit. Though the 8525 features the standard amount of internal memory, it features a microSD memory card slot or storage expansion. There's also onboard Bluetooth 2.0 and high-speed 802.11g Wi-Fi.
NOTE: The Cingular 8525 was replaced by the AT&T 8525, which was then replaced by the AT&T Tilt.
