The
Dell Axim X51v was released as the Windows Mobile 5.0 replacement for the Axim X50v. Physically identical to the X50v, the X51v features several upgrades and internal improvements over its predecessor.
Because the X51v runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, this Axim has a memory management scheme called Persistent Memory Storage. This system makes Pocket PCs run more like regular computers; the RAM is used for system memory (running programs), while the ROM acts as a hard drive, storing all information, applications and files. This new scheme prevents Pocket PCs from losing their information when the battery is drained.
Because of this change, the X51v features a 256MB ROM. No Pocket PC previously released had offered this much non-volatile storage.
The Axim X51v has all of the features of the X50v including a large, crisp VGA display, a fast 624MHz processor, 802.11b Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Wireless, CompactFlash and Secure Digital slots and Infrared.
