Resetting the iPAQ rx1950 / rx1955 Series Pocket PCs

iPAQ rx1950 Series Pocket PC

There are two types of Windows Mobile Pocket PC resets: Soft Resets and Hard Resets

A Soft Reset stops all active (or open) programs and "reboots" the Pocket PC. When the Pocket PC powers back up, you'll start with all programs closed and the unit will be ready to use. The Soft Reset is intended to reset the Pocket PC if it is malfunctioning or has become bogged down.

The iPAQ rx1950 Series Pocket PCs can be soft reset by pressing the tiny recessed button on the left-hand side of the unit.

A Hard Reset wipes the system and returns the Pocket PC to its factory specs; in effect returning the Pocket PC to the state it was in when you purchased it. All data entered, preferences set or software installed on the Pocket PC after purchase will be lost after a hard reset and will have to transferred or reinstalled via ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center.

The iPAQ rx1950 / rx1955 Series Pocket PCs can be hard reset by pressing and holding the Calendar and Wi-Fi shortcut buttons while at the same time pressing and holding tiny recessed reset button on the left-hand side of the unit with a stylus or other small object.  Press and hold all three buttons until the screen completely fades.

When the screen fades, release all three buttons and use the stylus press the reset button once again.
