iPAQ Secure Digital Slot

Every iPAQ manufactured since 2002 has an onboard Secure Digital (SD) slot. Secure Digital cards are small flash memory cars designed for storage of data on digital cameras, MP3 Players, PDAs, etc. The cards are about the size of a postage stamp.

The secure digital slot can read from and write to both SD cards and MultiMedia Cards (MMCs). SD cards differ from MMCs in that they feature a write-protect switch that prevents inadvertent overwriting and other added features for secure data (files, ebooks, data, etc.). MMCs are less advanced with fewer features. However, despite this, MMCs can meet most users' needs.

Some Secure Digital Card Slots have a feature called SDIO support. SDIO (Secure Digital Input/Output) allows Secure Digital slots to use more than just memory cards. With SDIO, SD Slots can interface with peripherals such as GPS Receivers, 802.11b Wireless Ethernet Cards, SD Digital Cameras and more. If you plan on using your SD slot for peripherals, make sure that your Pocket PC features this support.
