If you have Word, Excel, MP3, WMA, or WMV files
on your computer that you'd like to move to your
Pocket PC, the task may seem daunting. However, the process of transferring files from your Windows PC to your Pocket PC is actually quite simple.
In this tutorial, we'll show you how to do just that in a few simple steps:
Step 1: Locate the Files You Wish to Transfer
First, find the files on your computer that you
want to move to the Pocket PC. In this tutorial, we'll move two files, My Journal.DOC and 2002 Expenses.XLS, which are located in the folder C:\Files for Pocket PC:

With the mouse, click and drag a box around the
file(s) you want to copy to the Pocket PC. Right
click on the file(s) after highlighting
them and right-click the mouse, then select Copy from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: From the Clipboard to the Pocket PC
Now that the files are in the Windows clipboard,
it's time to move them to the Pocket PC. Sync your
Pocket PC with ActiveSync and allow the syncronization cycle
to compete. Then select Explore from
the ActiveSync toolbar.

The "Explore" function of ActiveSync
allows you to browse the files on your Pocket PC
like you would browse the contents of your computer's hard drive in My Computer and Windows Explorer. Double-click
the My Pocket PC or Mobile Device icon.

If you want to copy the files to your Pocket
PC's internal memory (RAM) double-click the My
Documents folder. If you want to move the
files to your Pocket PC's CompactFlash, MMC, or
SD card, click here.

Once you're in the My Documents folder
of your Pocket PC, right-click somewhere in the
window where no icons or words appear, then select
Paste from the drop-down menu:

The copying process has now begun. The files may have
to be converted by ActiveSync, so be patient. Once the copied files have been pasted onto the Pocket
PC and are ready to use:

Alternative Step 2: From the Clipboard to the Flash Memory Card
If
you wish to move files from your Windows PC to your Pocket
PC's CompactFlash, SD, or MMC flash memory cards,
the procedure must be slightly altered.
From within
the My Pocket PC Menu in the Explore window on your Windows PC, double-click Storage Card
(NOTE: some Pocket PCs give each storage medium a
unique name such as "CF Card" or "SD
Card." If this is the case, double-click the
card you wish to move the files to):

Once
in the Storage Card folder of your Pocket
PC, see if there is a My Documents folder
listed. If there is, double click it. If there is
not, right-click somewhere in the window where no
icons or words appear, then select New Folder from the drop-down menu. Name the new folder My
Documents. Once the folder
is created, double-click it.
Inside the My
Documents folder of your memory card, right-click
somewhere in the window where no icons or words
appear, then select Paste from the drop-down
menu. The copying process has now begun. The files
have to be converted by ActiveSync, so be patient.
Now the files you copied have been pasted onto the
Pocket PC and are ready to use.
