Playing MPEG Video Files on Your Pocket PC

Your Pocket PC's Windows Media Player cannot play video files encoded in the popular MPEG format. In order to play such files, you must download a third-party video viewing application, like PocketTV, and install it on your Pocket PC.

To download a free copy of PocketTV Classic, click here. For improved performance and other options, PocketTV Enterprise Edition is also available for a fee. It can be downloaded here.

After you've installed PocketTV, you can begin watching MPEG video. In order for your video files to play in PocketTV - or any other audio or video program - they must usually be in stored the "My Documents" Directory of your Pocket PC's internal memory or Storage Card.

If you have a storage card, such as a CompactFlash, MMC, or Secure Digital card, you can also store music and video files there. In File Explorer, go to your "Storage Card" folder.

Once you're in the "Storage Card" folder, look for a "My Documents" folder. If one does not yet exist, hold your stylus down for two seconds on a blank area of the screen and select "New Folder" from the menu.

Name the new folder "My Documents". Now you have a "My Documents" folder on your storage card for storing music and video files to show up in a medial media player.

In either of your "My Documents" folders, you can create sub folders to help you keep your files straight. Create a "Music" folder for your MP3 and WMA files and a "Video" folder for your Windows Video Files.
