Accessing Flash Memory Card Files Via ActiveSync

If you have files you would like to move to, or delete from, your Pocket PC's Flash Memory Card, you can do so with your desktop computer and ActiveSync.

First, sync your Pocket PC. Allow the syncing process to complete and open the ActiveSync window (if it isn't already). Then, click the "Explore" button in the ActiveSync toolbar. Click the "My Pocket PC" icon on the first page you see.

From the "My Pocket PC Menu" you then select "Storage Card." Now, you have access to all files on your storage card (MMC, SD, CompactFlash) from your desktop and can edit, move or delete files from the card or add files to it. For example, if you want to rename a file on the storage card, right-click the file with your mouse and select "Rename" from the dropdown menu (or hit F2 on your keyboard) and you can rename the file. If you wanted to move a file, a picture or MP3, you would simply find the file on your desktop that you wanted to move to the storage card, right-click it with your mouse, select "Copy," and paste the file in the "Storage Card" window.

Note: Many programs, such as Microsoft Reader, Pocket Word, and Media Player, can only "see" the files they use if they are stored in the "My Documents" folder. If you've transferred a file to your Pocket PC that you can't find in a particular program, try moving it to the "My Documents" folder. If you store files used by these programs on a Storage Card, you must create a "My Documents" folder on the Storage Card.
