Motorola's
first Pocket PC Phone, the MPx, was set for release
in the
US sometime in Q1 of 2005. The MPx was to
be the first Pocket PC of its kind, using a dual-hinge
system that allowed the screen to be viewed in
landscape with the QWERTY keyboard beneath (PalmTop
Mode) or in portrait for voice calls (Flip-Phone
Mode).
Though the MPx was sold in some parts of Asia for a time, plans to release the Smartphone in the United States have been scrapped. The unit was plagued by too many errors to ever go into mass production.
There are various reports that Motorola will release another Windows Mobile Smartphone in the near future, one designed around the look of the Motorola RAZR.
