When we reviewed Apple's iPod nano in early 2006, we wished that Apple had brought the iPod mini's aluminum shell to its diminutive successor. Unfortunately, there is still no aluminum iPod nano, but there is the new Samsung Z5, a nano-sized player sheathed in protective aluminum.
The Samsung YP-Z5A comes in both silver and black, is compatible with nearly all non-iTunes online music stores, supports subscription music services and offers over 30 hours of battery life per charge. Its 1.8-inch color screen is perfect for viewing album art or JPEG still photos, though, like the iPod nano, the YP-Z5A doesn't offer video playback.
