Like the iPAQ 500, all of the new iPAQ handhelds will have a naming scheme with model numbers below 1000:
The iPAQ 100 Series will feature standalone Windows Mobile PDAs running Windows Mobile 6 Classic. These devices will replace entry-level iPAQs such as the rz1700 Series.
The iPAQ 200 Series will also be standalone PDA devices, but with built-in GPS and navigation software, and faster processors. These devices would replace the current rx4000 and rx5000 Series Pocket PCs.
The iPAQ 300 Series will feature VGA touchscreen displays and powerful processors with an aim at business users. The iPAQ hx4700, now discontinued, was the last HP Windows Mobile device to feature a VGA display.
The iPAQ 600 and 900 Series models will be 3G-ready Windows Mobile Smartphones with touchscreens, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. The 900 Series models will also feature keyboards for quick data entry and represent the flagship of HP's Windows Mobile offerings.
HP has not officially announced its plans for this new family of iPAQs, though it is expected to do so sometime in September. All information should be treated as rumor until confirmed. As more information becomes available, it will be posted in the Pocket PC Central News Center. Have questions, comments or information regarding the upcoming iPAQs? E-mail us.
