February 8, 2007 - On the heals of last week's Vista launch, Microsoft is gearing up for the official Windows Mobile 6 announcement on February 12, 2006. While there's no word yet on a release date or WM6 upgrade availability, we are learning more about Windows Mobile 6 as the announcement approaches.
Windows Mobile 6 isn't a revolutionary leap forward, but merely an evolutionary step, with minor functionality improvements and a new naming scheme for the different versions of the OS. The primary changes will be a new, Vista-esque color scheme, updated Office Mobile utility and tighter integration with Windows Vista.

Windows Mobile 6 Professional and Windows Mobile 6 Classic (formerly Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition and Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, respectively) will get new versions of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Mobile, each with improved viewing and editing capabilities, support for HTML e-mail, Windows Live for Windows Mobile (including contacts, mail, messenger and search), Internet Sharing for using a Windows Mobile device as a PC wireless modem, and a "Remote Wipe" feature for lost or stolen devices, along with other minor improvements. Windows Mobile 6 Standard, which will power Windows Mobile Smartphones, will also finally have Mobile Office apps along with various other improvements.
The official Microsoft announcement on Monday, February 12, 2007, will not mark the launch of Windows Mobile 6, though it is believed that the first devices running the new OS will become available sometime in April or May of 2007.
