The
SX66 was the successor to the SX56 and
the second Pocket PC Phone to bear the Siemens
brand, though it was virtually the same phone
sold under other names (see the Audiovox PPC-6601 and VX6600).
The
design of the SX66 and its siblings featured
a then-innovative slide-to-hide QWERTY keyboard which,
when not in use, slid behind the screen.
The
specs of the SX66 are also similar to its Audiovox
clones. The phone is powered by a
400MHz Intel XScale processor and has 128MB of
RAM with a 64MB ROM chip. Unlike other
versions, however, the SX66 had
onboard Wi-Fi, not just Bluetooth. This
means that the Siemens SX66 can connect with
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPRS networks right out
of the box.
The
SX66 was distributed by Cingular Wireless, which has since been acquired by AT&T Mobile.
