The T-Mobile G1 was the first smartphone powered by Google's open source Android mobile operating system to the released in the U.S.  The two-year-old handset is still part of T-Mobile's Android smartphone lineup, though will likely be retired sometime this summer.

Designed by HTC, the G1 sports a somewhat familiar slide-to-hide design with a QWERTY keyboard beneath the screen.  As for the screen, it's a 480x320 HVGA touchscreen. Other hardware features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSDPA and EDGE wireless data connectivity, a 3D graphics hardware and a 3MP camera.

The Android OS centers heavily on Google applications such as Google Maps, Gmail with Push support, Google Calendar, Google Talk, YouTube, etc.  AmazonMP3 also has an application built-in which allows you to buy DRM-free music on the go.  Software authors can also write applications for Android, so hundreds of third-party Android software titles will come over the coming months.

The T-Mobile G1 MSRP is $99 with a two-year service agreement.
